About Ian:

Ian Baucke is your local progressive Democratic candidate for Santa Barbara City Council in District 5. Born and raised in Santa Barbara, Ian cares deeply for the city he grew up in and plans to build his future family here.

A proud product of our local public schools, Ian attended Santa Barbara Junior High and San Marcos High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor's in Political Science and Master's in Political Management at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Ian brings experience working at every level of government. After graduating, Ian worked in the Office of Representative Salud Carbajal, advised local governments on pandemic recovery as a fellow with the National Association of Counties, and now works for California Senate Pro Tempore Monique Limón’s Santa Barbara office as a District Representative.

Like most locals, Ian has worked in other industries on the way to building his career in public service. Ian has worked as a State Street restaurant worker and as a tour guide showcasing our local history and nature to visitors. Ian’s diverse experience gives him a valuable perspective on the opportunities and challenges workers face in our local economy.

Outside of work, Ian has been an active volunteer in community organizations fighting for progressive change locally, including the Santa Barbara Young Democrats, Strong Towns Santa Barbara, the Sunrise Movement, and the local Tenants Union.

The City Council appointed Ian to Santa Barbara's Transportation and Circulation Committee, where he currently serves as Chairman, championing safer, greener streets that provide more mobility options for Santa Barbarians.

Ian has shown up for Santa Barbara as a community advocate for years. He's been actively involved in local government and politics, pushing City Hall to enact policies that will improve the quality of life for all residents.

Ian Baucke is running for City Council to step up the impact of the work he’s already been doing for years and to deliver good local government for his hometown and the neighborhoods of District 5.
